Why I Give- Cynthia Hogan
For Cynthia Hogan, a lifelong devotion to public libraries began in New York City. Growing up with a working mother who made time every week to walk Cynthia and her brother to the New York Public Library, it was there that her love for reading took root- guided by attentive librarians who allowed her to take home 6 books each visit.
“I have always loved to read,” Cynthia shares. “Books are friends who are always available, whether in print or audio.”
When Cynthia and her husband moved to Jackson 13 years ago, one of their very first stops was at the Teton County Library. She was immediately struck by the beauty of the facility and its warm, inviting atmosphere. Over the years, the library became an essential fixture in their lives- a place to attend lectures by the Geologists of Jackson Hole, host candidate debates with the League of Women Voters, and borrow and listen to audiobooks like Sarah Vowell’s Lafayette in the Somewhat United States during cross-country drives.
After experiencing the breadth of programming, community events, and resources offered at Teton County Library, Cynthia wanted a tangible way to give back to the institution that had given her so much.
“I wanted to thank the library and the community, and giving through Old Bill’s was one way to express my gratitude,” Cynthia explains.
For Cynthia, Old Bill’s Fun Run provides the perfect avenue to show appreciation for the library’s role as an anchor in the valley. And she firmly believes that it isn’t necessarily the amount that matters, but the repetition of giving.
“I believe that consistency in giving is very important, so that institutions can make commitments and plans for the future,” says Cynthia. “It doesn’t need to be a lot of money- whatever feels appropriate. But if you love a non-profit or an institution, and want it to be there for the long term, giving regularly is important.”
Consistent annual giving through Old Bill’s ensures the Teton County Library Foundation & Friends can reliably fund high-impact programs, expand collections, and plan for the future with confidence, knowing the community stands firmly behind them.
Join Cynthia during Old Bill’s giving season August 14- September 18, 2026.
